From the recording Aria: Miss Dixie's Lament

Each time the end of the new railroad is extended a few miles, the Gandy Dancer Tavern moves with it so as to always be near the workers every day at quitting time.  Miss Dixie, owner and “operator” reveals the nature of her true character in Miss Dixie's Lament, a soliloquy that sets the stage for the next scene.

This archival recording of Aria: Miss Dixie's Lament  from Act I of Luke & Sarah features mezzo-soprano Linda Escobar with James Domine conducting the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra.
