From the recording Scene: "Mountaineer"
In 1890s America the railroads, coal miners and lumberjacks are penetrating the heart of the mountains. In spite of the territorial feud between Pa McBeam and Pa McDaniels that has been going on for years and recently has been escalating in intensity and violence, the mountain folk are bound together by a mutual hatred of the outsiders that threaten their way of life. This agrarian-industrial social conflict is expressed by Pa McDaniels and the mountain folk in the Mountaineer ensemble.
This archival recording of Scene: Mountaineer from Act I of Luke & Sarah is an electronic rendition that has no vaclas and is a work in progress. In the opera this scene is performed by Pa McDaniels with Luke, the evil twins Asa and Ira and a chorus of Mountain Folk.
